Pat's Oscar at Gowran

Pat's Oscar is a new horse to the club. She is a 7 year old mare by Oscar and Coming Home and she has been known to us since she won a 2m hurdle at Fairyhouse on Valentines Day that also featured Bettatogether.  It was a mud bath massacre that day and her best form has been on heavy ground so even with Davy Russell on board but carrying top weight and not having run for over 200 days, the general consensus was "best watched" in this one. That said, this was the day that Bristol De Mai defied everyone who claimed she could only win on heavy ground by winning the Betfair on good.

Davy had her tucked away last but one of the field and her jumping was sound throughout. She crept her way through the field but when the serious racing started, she couldn't get to the leaders and finished well behind them in 7th. The post race update was that she was fine after but needs heavier ground - the irony being that we didn't have a horse who could handle heavy ground back when Pat's Oscar was winning in February and at that stage we were longing for the dry weather. It's proving difficult to get the right horse for the right time of year especially when the weather isnt what it should be. I'm sure all the club members will be hoping it stays dry for another couple of weeks so Smiling Eliza can go to Aintree with the best chance possible.
