Club Horses Update

Message from Alex posted on the app this week:

Sorry it’s been a little while since we last sent you an update on all the club horses. At present we only have 7 horses in the club as opposed to 8 but Gordon is always on the look out for new recruits!

SMILING ELIZA – 2015 Bay filly (Rock Of Gibralter x Gift Dancer).
Smiling Eliza has been a great versatile horse for the club this summer. She won on the flat at Navan over 1m2f back in June and has had 3 starts in 3-Y-O maiden hurdles, winning won and coming 2nd twice! She is currently rated 69 on the flat and is yet to receive her mark over hurdles. Her best form is on good/good to firm ground.

SCEALAI AONAIR – 2014 Bay filly (Fastnet Rock x Propaganda)
Scealai Aonair won a nice a nice handicap over 1m1f in heavy ground at Clonmel back in May. She didn’t show her best on the firmer summer ground so we haven’t seen her out on the track for a while but now the rain has come she will be receiving plenty of entries. She is currently rated 59 on the flat.

CLONARD ABBEY – 2016 Bay filly (Dragon Pulse x Redily Acclaimed)
Clonard Abbey joined the club having never run on the track before. She made her debut at Fairyhouse back in July and although she finished 11th out of 14 she showed plenty of promise and a good attitude. She surprised us all when she ran at Ayr next time out and finished 3rd beaten only by 3 lengths. We are taking our time with her as she is only a 2yo but if she keeps improving the way she has then we will have plenty of fun with her.

TAPENADE – 2014 Brown gelding (Scorpion x Corravilla)
Tapenade has been part of the racing club since last year. He was brought as an unnamed 3 y-o by Gordon and we have taken our time with him. We were hoping to have got a run into him in him back in the spring but he was very green so we didn’t rush him. The firm summer ground wouldn’t have suited so we backed right off with him and will be upping his work back up again soon.

SHIRLEYS GOLD WELL – 2013 Bay mare (Gold Well x Shirleys Hill)
Shirleys Gold Well was a point to point winner who joined the club and ran in 3 bumpers for us. We were hoping that she would show some better form than what she did on the track and Lisa O’Neill reported at Limerick last time out that even though she was wearing a tongue tie she was struggling to catch her breath. Shirely isn’t the best of movers so we eased off her throughout the summer as the ground would have been far too firm to run her.

CORNAKILL ROSE – 2012 Bay mare (Flying Legend x Ballyalea Queen)
Cornakill Rose joined the club recently having previously run for the yard under different ownership. She finished midfield in a bumper at Kilbeggan last week and Gordon is now looking at sending her over hurdles. She would benefit with a step up in trip from 2miles and will have come on for the run last week as she had been off the track for a little while. She seems very genuine and we should have some fun with her.

FORRARDON XMOOR – 2009 Grey gelding (Fair Mix x The Nuns Song)
Forrardon Xmoor is a triple point to point winner who joined the club last week. He pulled up on his debut at Perth on Monday but Richard Johnson was confident that on heavy ground he should be capable of winning a race. He’s a big old fashioned chaser who will love the winter ground and we will be looking at running him over a mixture of fences and hurdles. It looks as though he’ll want every bit of 3 miles. He is currently rated 87 over hurdles and is yet to receive his mark over fences.
