Scealai Aonair at Navan

Scealai Aonair was back in action following her victory at Clonmel and her encounter with Galileo Gold.  She was up 8lb for that win in this longer race over 1m 5f and with the long spell of dry weather we've been having, the ground came up good to firm.

There were a lot of questions to be answered with this race. Could she continue her softer ground form on better ground with more weight? is she pregnant? will she like the longer distance?

Leigh Roche was onboard for this one and she had a good draw out of stall 4. Leigh kept her about 3rd the whole way round and then produced her around the final bend. She had the lead briefly but was soon caught and the longer distance to the finish line meant she also slipped out of the places. It reminded me a lot of her first run at Cork when she also had the lead briefly but stayed on for 3rd. That was over 1m 2f.

Leigh reported afterwards that she wants a shorter trip and softer ground so we'll see where she ends up next. Alex said Scealai Aonair was fine the next day. Alex Hutter and Zoe Winston would be our primary points of contact for the club. Zoe is leaving Gordon Elliott Racing this summer to return home to South Wales to take over the family farm. So all the best to Zoe and her family.
