GERC Horse Update

Post from Zoe Winston today.

Hi everyone,

Very glad to see some sunshine here this morning after a miserable few days! Wexford has been abandoned tomorrow making it the third meeting in a row to be cancelled.

Please see below an update of all GERC horses.

SHIRLEYS GOLD WELL has really come on in herself at home since her run in Down Royal, she is a very honest little mare and we will see a big improvement from her as we start to get better ground. She will be entered up as soon as we have a suitable race and conditions as she is fit and ready to go.

TAPENADE is a lovely sort who is still a big baby, we have taken our time with him and will give him as much time as he needs before running him. Some of the younger horses can be in training for a full season before they run, one of our recent bumper winners was in training for 18 months before he made his debut, some of them just need plenty of patience but we would anticipate he will run before the end of the jump season all being well.

BETTATOGETHER is still tipping away at home waiting for the better ground which we thought we would have by now! He is very straightforward and schools well. Perth would be ideal for him.

DAWERANN is back with us in the main yard and has just started cantering steady away, he is always easy to get fit and keep fit – as some of our longer standing members would know he will still have a little belly after multiple runs, he holds his condition very well!

FAIRY FLUTE came home from her last run in Dundalk absolutely fine, Gordon was happy with how Jack rode her and she’ll be entered up again very soon. We may try her over hurdles soon.

SCEALAI AONAI would have run on Wednesday had Leopardstown not been called off, it was a shame as we were looking forward to her yard debut. As we reported last week she galloped very well at Thurles and has been pleasing at home. She is a horse we are going to have plenty of fun with.

COLONEL MAXIMUS returned from Cork tired but fine, he ran as he was fit and ready to go but he has been disappointing. Gordon said he will have one more chance on better ground and then we will have to sit down and have a think about his future.

CRACK OF THUNDER is doing plenty in our pre-training yard, all horses that come to us or come back into training do around 6 week steady work in our pre training yards before coming to the main yard to start their faster work and schooling.
