Bettatogether at Fairyhouse

Third times a charm but unfortunately not in this case. Bettatogether had his third run here in under 2 months and while there were positives, ultimately it was another day outside the places. He was top weight, it was over a longer distance of 2m 4f and The Racing Post and At The Races tipped him. Added to that he had Davy Russell on board and I really thought this could be our day. I spoke to Mary again beforehand and she said he'd settled well again and was delighted with him the last day. Gordon told Davy to try something different today - drop him out the back and creep him into the race and I don't know if he didn't have the horse under him to do it or if he did exactly what he wanted as he was at the rear for most of the race then from after 3 out he started to make his way up past mid division but was still a fair bit off the front. He needed a good jump at the second last and the momentum from that to propel him into a race for the places but he hit the hurdle hard and that took the wind out of him completely leaving him in a race not to finish last.

Afterwards Davy said he was going well and he was happy with him but the mistake at the second last was too costly. Gordon talked before the race about sending him over the water to race if he didn't perform here this time. Apparently the races aren't as competitive over there and he would have a better chance. He's a handsome big horse, it feels like he's improving every race and I'd love to see him win a race but as Gordon said, he's just not getting home. Also, when he was being paraded before hand, I swear he recognised me from the stable tour the other day. Alex reported he was fine after the race and he'll soon have better ground to go on.
